The Veil Skirt in French Cream Satin - Convertible Court Skirt
The Veil Skirt in French Cream Satin is a convertible court skirt conceived within the House of Madame Mortelle and carried into the Immortelle atelier — a garment that exists between structure and light, discipline and refinement.
This interpretation is rendered in French Cream, a warm, softly luminous satin developed within the Immortelle atelier. The tone rests between ivory and antique cream, carrying a quiet depth that recalls aged silk, heirloom textiles, and the softened glow of candlelit interiors. It is neither stark nor pale, but gently enriched — a color shaped by time, restraint, and refinement.
The satin finish lends the garment a subtle radiance, catching light across its gathered surface and allowing each fold and movement to read with clarity. It evokes the composed elegance of 18th-century French court dress, where texture and tone were used not for display, but for presence.
Designed with built-in skirt hikes and controlled gathers, the Veil Skirt allows the wearer to alter her silhouette at will. When worn lowered, it falls as a long, flowing court skirt — composed, graceful, and restrained. When the hikes are drawn, the skirt transforms, lifting into sculptural drapery that reveals depth, movement, and layered volume beneath.
Nothing is revealed without choice.
A deep gathered ruffle at the hem adds weight and movement, ensuring the transformation reads as architectural rather than ornamental. The effect is deliberate and fluid — designed for presence rather than excess.
The expression changes. The intention does not.
In its French Cream satin palette, the Veil Skirt was created as a foundational element within the Immortelle wardrobe — designed to pair seamlessly across corsets, gowns, and layered compositions. It offers a luminous neutral anchor within the collection, allowing each ensemble to shift in mood through silhouette, structure, and light.
Measurements & Proportions
Length: 43 inches from waist to floor
Hem Ruffle: 9-inch gathered ruffle
Pockets: Yes (please note some colorways may not include pockets)
Underpinnings: Styled over a full court hoop and the forthcoming Immortelle crinoline; these foundational underpinnings are not included with this piece.
In several images, the skirt is drawn upward through its built-in hikes, revealing the structure beneath — a reflection of its intended transformation between concealment and form.
The proportions are intentional — long enough to flow as a full-length skirt, dramatic when drawn upward through the built-in hikes, and designed to pair beautifully with corsets, panniers, crinolines, and court silhouettes.
✧ French Cream is a signature Immortelle satin colorway. Each garment is dyed individually at the time of creation, allowing the tone to develop with subtle variation. Slight differences in shade may occur between pieces — a reflection of the dyeing process and part of the character of the garment rather than a flaw. ✧

FOUNDATIONS OF SILHOUETTE
What Is Worn Beneath
The character of an Immortelle skirt is shaped by what lies beneath it. Panniers widen the stance, petticoats soften the line, and layered undergarments create depth and movement. Each foundation alters the presence of the skirt, allowing one piece to shift effortlessly between eras, occasions, and expressions.
